Will NHL Players from Russia be playing Ice Hockey at the Winter Olympics 2022?
Winter Olympics 2022 are a dream come true for NHL players. Russia had been banned by WADA from all international sport for 4 years, after the Russian government was found to have tampered with lab data that it provided to WADA in January 2019 as a condition of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency being reinstated. However, individually cleared Russian athletes will be allowed to take part in the 2022 Winter Olympics under a currently untitled neutral banner. In return an appeal has been filed by Russia to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against WADA’s decision. The Court has allowed Russia to participate at the Olympics for a period of two years without the use of Russian name, flag or anthem and must present themselves as neutral athletes.
The ruling does allow for team uniforms to display “Russia” on the uniform as well as the use of the Russian flag colors within the uniform’s design, although the name should be up to equal predominance as the “Neutral Athlete/Team” designation.
There will be a total of 25 competition and non competition venues hosting competition in Beijing, Yanqing, Zhangjiakou for Olympics and Paralympic Games. Although it is recommended to be vaccinated to attend the event as an athlete. However, non vaccinated athletes can also attend the event but with the quarantine period of 21 days! All domestic and international participants, as well as workers at the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games, will be tested every day.
Despite possible NBC Boycotting the Winter Olympics 2022, the possibility of participant countries boycotting the Olympics is very dim. Being said that almost all the countries with NHL players would seem to be playing at Beijing Olympics. So, NHL Winter Olympics 2022 seems to be a go ahead by the end of September 2021.
