Olympic Lifting and Track & Field
Vancouver, Canada
The Race unfolded in an unusual way:
At a race in Florence in early June 2021, with the target of 12:40 in mind, Joshua Cheptgei crossed the rabbits after four laps and some change. The decision to pick up the pace all alone resulted to be a fatal decision when he was seen slowing down around 4000 meters. The winner of the race, Jacob Ingebrigsten, followed the leading pack closely to wrap the race in a world-leading time of 12.48.45. Joshua Cheptegei finished in a distant 6th with the time of 12:54.69 behind Gebrhiwet (2nd in 12:49.02), Canada’s Moh Ahmed (3rd in 12:50.12), and Mohamed Katir, who set a Spanish record of 5000m in 12:50.79 coming in 4th. Justyn Knight of Canada ran 12:51.93 to become just the second Canadian under 13:00 minutes. Mo Farah is missing from the Olympics because he wasn’t running the 5000 meters and failed to qualify for 10000 meters.
Since, all the trials of dominating nations in longs distance have been concluded, lets take a look whether Joshua Cheptegei can win a Gold at Tokyo 2020 or not?
