Mizuno itself

Mizuno Men’s Wave Rider 25 Running Shoe is one of the shoes that Mizuno has been making ever since the beginning minus the model 25. Mizuno is known to make shoes that are reliable, fit to the foot, and sport-specific including road running, track and field spikes, trail running, golf, softball, basketball, and all. In fact, I have seen Mizuno shoes being worn by Chiropractors and physiotherapists yet Mizuno is a very underrated company when it comes to running. I would go to the extent that Mizuno was one of the first companies to make shoes as per the need of the foot.

By the way, they are from Japan and we may see Mizuno sponsoring the event at Tokyo 2020 or say 2021 Olympics provided there is no conflict of interest with Nike, Adidas, etc. The Mizuno Wave Rider 25 Running Shoe release date has been passed so the review is being written after buying the shoe. Usually, I buy the shoe when they are on sale, but this time I got away with a good price without shoes being on sale. I will share my secret some other time.

Mizuno Men’s Wave Rider 25 Running Shoe Itself

I have been wearing Mizuno for at least the last five years without switching to any other company. For sure, I have tried Mizuno Wave Ride 17, 18, 19, and so on. In the meantime, Mizuno was developing model 25, they tried changing the upper with the “Wave Knit” model. Although I liked the snug fit wave knit and the lightness of the shoe, there were a lot of complaints about the “weak” upper. Gladly Mizuno has fixed it for better.

The Base Plate

Mizuno has been making the shoes with base plate since the beginning of the time. As there is the fashion nowadays with other companies making a plate shoe, Mizuno has also leveled up with making a shoe that has a base plate as before but at this time, it is more hidden than visible and a part of the design which makes it look sleek.

If you are looking for how-to-fit shoes for flat feet, we have a different post on this topic.

The Foam

Almost all the previously manufactured Mizuno shoes didn’t look like any other company but Mizuno Wave Rider 25 has leveled up the bottom and heel look of the shoe to match the big dogs. In my opinion, Mizuno was already better than others in terms of injury prevention, rehabilitation, and design but it is good to keep up with the trend.

The Upper

As I have mentioned earlier, the upper of Wave Knit has been replaced with a better material that would hopefully not conform to the foot with time. I remember once I bought Mizuno 19 and the upper went back within three weeks. I called Mizuno and they gladly sent me a brand new pair. I just hope improving the upper would save Mizuuno some replacement product money.

The Fit

Absolutely true to fit. I tried some other brand shoe and a half size larger another Mizuno model. Mizuno Wave Rider 25 was a clear winner.

The Lace

The best Laces I found on any Mizuo pair were on Wave Daichi. However, I was not disappointed with the Lace elasticity of Wave Rider 25. They are long enough to tie together twice or make a loop for a better fit around the ankle.

Now The Ride

This is not a sponsored post and it is my own personal experience with the shoe. In the future, I may update this review with a video after I wear the shoe for about 100 miles. I tried the shoes inside the store, I felt the support on my Plantar fasciitis, snug fit and fast. When I tried the shoes on a track with 1000 meter repetitions, they felt natural and landing was not a forced heel strike. Shoes also hold a good grip on road runs up to 10kms. I usually do not wear shoes with this low drop for longer runs than 6 miles because they may make your feet hurt due to the lack of enough cushion for longer runners.
