400m pacing rationale

The 400m is a sprint, but it is not run at one constant speed. The athlete accelerates, reaches high velocity, tries to stay relaxed through the backstretch, and then fights to maintain mechanics as fatigue rises over the final 120m.

Why the first 200m matters

The first 200m sets up the entire race. If it is too slow, the athlete may not create enough momentum. If it is too aggressive, the final 100m can collapse. A good 400m model balances speed with relaxation.

Why 300m is the key checkpoint

The 300m mark shows whether the athlete is still holding form. Many 400m races are won or lost between 250m and 350m, where posture, rhythm, and relaxation become critical.
