Workout prediction rationale

A workout can suggest race potential, but it does not guarantee a race result. Recovery length, total volume, session type, athlete profile, fatigue, and race execution all matter. This calculator gives a realistic estimate instead of overclaiming from one workout.

Why workout type matters

A race-specific workout predicts better than a general fitness workout. For example, 5×1000m at 5K rhythm predicts 5K better than it predicts 800m. A speed endurance session predicts 400m/800m better than marathon or 10K ability.

Why recovery matters

Short recovery makes a workout more endurance-specific. Long recovery allows faster repetitions but may overestimate race ability if the athlete cannot sustain that rhythm continuously.

How to use this calculator

  • Use a recent, well-executed workout.
  • Do not use a workout done in extreme fatigue or extreme conditions unless that reflects race context.
  • Use the prediction range, not only the single predicted time.
  • Compare this with the Race Predictor Calculator and actual race results.
