Joshua Cheptegei’s 5km road world record 12.52 (2020) has been broken by Berihu Aregawi 12:49 (2021)
At Cursa dels Nassos 5K in Barcelona, yet to be ratified world records of men’s 5k and women’s 5k road races have been broken by Berihu Aregawi and Ejegayehu Taye respectively.
Although Berihu Aregawi ran 12:52 in Lille France in November, he came short of breaking the 2020 world record of Joshua Cheptegei by just one second.
Ejegayehu Taye of Ethiopia broke women’s 5k road world record (14:39) by 20 seconds (14:19) in a mixed race.
